Una’s Chat

UnasChatIcon.jpg “Never help a child with a task at which he feels he can succeed.”

Dear Families,

Last night we held our Parent Information Night on a very important component of Montessori theory and practice: practical life.  As you all know by now, practical life is the foundation of the child’s work in the classroom and ultimately in life.

At all levels, practical life truly lays the groundwork for the child’s self-care and self-management—not just in the classroom but also at home. And the development of independence and confidence are also supported as the child cares for and manages his or her environment. At the Elementary level, practical life extends into the broader community as the child begins to grasp his or her role as a citizen of the world. Participation in these basic activities of daily life engenders a sense of him or herself as a capable, useful contributor in the classroom community, and ultimately in the global community. Can you see how these activities evolve to become more significant to your child’s development as a successful human being?

So remember, when you are with your child and tempted to do something for him or her just for expediency, (or simply because you feel you can do it better), stop and think about the experience you may be denying your child.

In this season of Thanksgiving, take a few moments to look through our blog, and the many photos of children, staff and families on our website; you will see what lies at the root of much of my gratitude.

Thank you and have a wonderful weekend,

Una

Wrapping Paper Fundraiser

innisbrook-logo.jpg

Get ready for the holidays while supporting your Family Association!

This is our last fundraiser for the year, so please help us earn as much as possible to keep the classroom socials and support for staff appreciation coming. 50% of all wrapping paper sales and 45% of other items will go to support MSGH.

Last day to place orders is Wednesday, November 23, and there are two easy ways:

  1. Use the form provided to you when the catalogs went home and return it to the Main Office by 11/23. Orders will be delivered in early December.
  2. Log on to www.Innisbrook.com
    1. MSGH receives the same percentage of your purchase, but there is a small shipping fee for orders under $85.00.
    2. There will be a blue box with "Family and Friends, Support a Fundraiser."
Click on that box and choose The Montessori School of Greater Hartford.

Welcome, Molly Elizabeth!
