Una’s Chat

Dear Families,

The following poem is one of Shel Silverstein’s wonderful commentaries on life.  It caught my eye because it so captures what I feel parenting is all about: modeling

 “Don’t Tell Me”
Please don’t tell me I should hug,
Don’t tell me I should care.
Don’t tell me just how grand I’d feel
If I just learned to share.
Don’t say, “It’s all right to cry,”
“Be Kind,” “Be fair,” Be true.”
Just let me see YOU do it,
Then I just might do it too.

Our children are designed, as Dr. Montessori put it, “to be acculturated to their time and place,” and parents are the blueprint that they follow to accomplish this. This is particularly true of the early years when children become what they experience.  Your young child experiences life through your lens. Your response becomes his or her response, so if you consistently model a positive approach to life, problems and obstacles so will your child.

Go to it, have fun and a great weekend.

Una

P.S.  If you haven’t already been introduced to the books of Shel Silverstein, you and your child are missing a treat. The following books are a must read for your older Primary child and beyond.  Enjoy!

The Giving Tree
Falling up
A light in the Attic
The Missing Piece
Where the Sidewalk Ends

GalaLogo_wordspalette.jpg

Do you have a fascination with bogeys, a hankering for Spanish tapas, or a need to detox with some yoga? A day at the Traveler's Championship, a delicious dinner at Barcelona, or a series of yoga classes at Sacred Rivers Yoga Studio could all be yours at this year's Annual Gala Auction on Friday, May 11.

The donations are starting to roll in for this year's event. If you would like to donate an item or help arrange for a donation, please fill out this donation form and send it to Susan Rich-Bye or drop it off in the Main Office.
