Lisbeth Harrison
Lower Elementary Teacher
"Montessori education is about whole-body learning and is the most inspiring and amazing process of learning that I have seen. I am humbled by how Maria Montessori created each piece of beautiful material and carefully created steps for how to present concepts to a child that promote optimal learning. I appreciate that it’s not just about the methods used, however; it’s also about the potential and enthusiasm of the child when he or she says, 'I can do this!'"

Lis joined the MSGH community in 2006 as the Lower Elementary Teacher. Originally from Sweden, she emigrated to the United States at ten years of age and is fluent in both English and Swedish. Prior to her entrée into the world of Montessori education, Lis held a fascinating array of roles. From 1993-2001, she served our country as a U.S. Army Medic in the National Guard. During her training, she graduated with honors, received national recognition as an Emergency Medical Technician, and went on to achieve both academic distinction and recognition as an outstanding leader.

After the service, she founded and co-owned Lisbeth’s Holistic Health Spa, where she concentrated her work on health support for families and young children and also enjoyed work for the University of Connecticut Child Lab. Additionally, she supported young children in a variety of care settings and in roles ranging from peer counseling to the Director of After-School Programs.

Lis holds an M. Ed. from Loyola University in Maryland and a BS in Human Development/Family Relations with a concentration in Childhood Development from the University of Connecticut. Her Association Montessori Internationale (AMI) diploma in Elementary Education is from the Washington Montessori Institute.

In her free time, she enjoys reading, going to the movies, camping, playing games with the kids, laughing at the kitchen table at silly jokes and listening to stories, and having pizza on Friday night with her family.
