Katie Kennedy
Suzuki Instructor
"I am thrilled to be part of an educational community whose values so perfectly align with my own. As a cello teacher, my ideas are influenced by the work of Japanese violinist and pedagogue Shinichi Suzuki. Suzuki based his approach on the belief that ‘Musical ability is not an inborn talent but an ability which can be developed. The potential of every child is unlimited.’ Suzuki’s goal was not solely to develop professional musicians, but to nurture loving human beings and help develop each child’s character through the study of music."

Katie Kennedy joined the MSGH community in 2010 as a private instructor, making Suzuki cello instruction accessible to the MSGH community for the first time. Katie is an accomplished cellist, an active performer, and has been a dedicated teacher for over ten years. She comes from a musical family and began her studies with her dad who is also a cellist.

Katie holds a degree in cello performance from Oberlin Conservatory, where she received a full scholarship, and has studied at Franz Liszt Academy in Budapest, Hungary. Katie’s continuing education has drawn from performances across Europe, Suzuki teacher-training courses at Ithaca College Summer Suzuki Institute, the Hartt School of Music, as well as regular performances across New England as a soloist, chamber musician and orchestral musician. She is a member of the music faculty at both Loomis Chaffee School in Windsor and the Community Music School in Springfield. During the summer, she can be found playing with the New Hampshire Music Festival Orchestra and teaching at the Music Adventure Chamber Music Program in Siena, Italy.

In her free time, she enjoys travel, art, reading and hiking.
