Michelle Thomas
Artist-in-Residence
"I loved every moment of my time last year as the MSGH Artist-in-Residence. I craved being in the classroom and feel blessed to have my own twins attending the elementary program at MSGH."

Michelle Thomas joined the MSGH community in 2010 as our first-ever Artist-in-Residence. Michelle is a mixed-media artist and owner and operator of Artpeace Studio, a studio dedicated to one-on-one instruction and personal commissions.

Recently retired, she served over 21 years in the Connecticut Air National Guard. Michelle was a self-taught artist until the age of 26 when she started attending Manchester Community College, where she received two Associate degrees with high honors for Fine Arts and General Studies. She graduated from Central Connecticut State University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts, and she aspires to attain her teaching certification.

Michelle works in a variety of mediums from oil paint, acrylic, watercolor, pastel, pen and ink, to ceramics and mixed medium. Her work consists of built-up surfaces incorporating mediums such as wax, crayon, oil pastel and cloth. The use of many different mediums expresses her belief in how the human psyche is made up of many layers. Some of these layers are presented just at the surface, while others are buried deep within. Even in the layers of her paintings, she first builds up the canvas and then reveals portions by scratching the surface.

In her free time, she enjoys creating her art and spending time with her family. Both of her children attend MSGH.
